Bay homers twice as Red Sox double up O's

Baseball Betting Lines

08/18/2008 - Baltimore, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jason Bay homered twice, driving in four runs and Jon Lester pitched seven solid innings as Boston topped Baltimore, 6-3, in the opener of a three-game series from Camden Yards.

Lester (12-4) yielded four hits and one run, striking out five with one walk to record his fifth win in six starts. Jonathan Papelbon earned his 33rd save by working the final 1 1/3 innings.

David Ortiz doubled twice and drove in a run for the Red Sox, who recovered nicely from losing two in a row to Toronto last weekend.

Aubrey Huff finished 2-for-4 with a homer and knocked in all three runs for the Orioles, who dropped their second game in three.

Jeremy Guthrie (10-9) was tagged in the loss for five hits and a pair of runs over seven innings.

After Lester's masterful performance, Sox reliever Manny Delcarmen started the eighth with a three-run cushion but ran into trouble after recording the first two outs.

He walked Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora, paving the way for Papelbon to enter the game. Huff, though, drilled a ball off the base of the wall in left-center to score two. Ramon Hernandez then lifted a lazy fly to right to end the frame.

The Sox picked up two insurance tallies in the ninth to go up 6-3. Dustin Pedroia singled and Ortiz drove him in with a double. A groundout by Kevin Youkilis moved Ortiz to third, and he scored when O's shortstop Alex Cintron was late throwing to the plate on a grounder from Bay.

Papelbon finished off the game by retiring the Orioles in order.

Bay led off the contest with his second homer since coming to the Red Sox, then Jason Varitek added a two-out solo homer.

Huff's solo homer to center with one down in the fourth put the O's on the board, but the home team couldn't put anything else together against the crafty left-hander.

Kevin Millar's one out double in the seventh went by the wayside, as Luke Scott fanned swinging and Jay Payton grounded out.

That proved costly, as Ortiz reached on Millar's fielding error and Bay drilled his second homer of the game to deep center off Rocky Cherry which put Boston ahead 4-1.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch

Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.

Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
