07/23/2008 - Cincinnati, OH (Baseball Betting) - Adam Dunn belted his eighth career grand slam and drove in five runs as the Cincinnati Reds charged past the San Diego Padres for a 9-5 win in the rubber match of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park.
Padres starter Greg Maddux allowed three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings and didn't factor in the decision. Maddux has now gone winless over his last 14 starts since his 350th career victory May 11 against Colorado, establishing a new career long. Maddux previously went without a win for 13 starts from May to July 1990.
Javier Valentin went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the Reds, who have won four of six overall. Edwin Encarnacion added a two-run blast, while Ken Griffey, Jr. went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.
Bronson Arroyo (9-7) allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings -- striking out seven and walking none -- to win his fifth straight start. Arroyo also helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Francisco Cordero recorded one out in the ninth to bail Todd Coffey out of a bases- loaded jam and picked up his 21st save.
Jody Gerut and Kevin Kouzmanoff each homered and knocked in two runs for the Padres, who have lost nine of their last 11 games. Brian Giles notched an RBI single, while Luis Rodriguez scored a pair of runs.
Cla Meredith (0-3) allowed the go-ahead run to take the loss in relief of Maddux, while Joe Thatcher was ripped for five runs in two-thirds of an inning out of the bullpen.
After Kouzmanoff's 13th homer gave San Diego a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth, the Reds rallied with eight runs over two frames.
In the home half, Phillips singled off Maddux with one out, then stole second. Maddux then had Phillips picked off second base, but Khalil Greene dropped the ball in a rundown and Phillips reached third safely. Dunn then made the Padres pay, singling in Phillips and chasing Maddux in favor of Meredith. Encarnacion immediately put the Reds on top with his 19th homer, crushing Meredith's first pitch into the seats in left for a 4-3 edge.
With Thatcher on the hill in the seventh, the Reds continued to pull away as Griffey's RBI double opened up a two-run gap. After an intentional walk to Phillips loaded the bases with one out, Dunn blew the game open with a laser shot over the wall in right to give Cincinnati a 9-3 lead.
Giles pulled a run back with an RBI single in the eighth, and the Padres loaded the bases against Coffey with one out in the ninth. Coffey fanned pinch-hitter Edgar Gonzalez, then was lifted for Cordero. A walk to Gerut forced in a run, but Cordero got pinch-hitter Scott Hairston to fly out to left to end the game.
Gerut put the Padres on top immediately, leading off the game by hammering a hanging breaking ball from Arroyo into the seats in right for his sixth homer. Neither team could put together any more offense until the fifth, when Valentin tied the game with a one-out blast to right-center for his first home run.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.
Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.
Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1.
