08/19/2008 - Pinehurst, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Robbie Fillmore fired a five-under 65 on Tuesday to earn medalist honors after the stroke-play portion of the U.S. Amateur.

The championship is being contested at Pinehurst Resorts No. 2 and No. 4 courses.

Fillmore's 65 on Tuesday came at the No. 4 course. He finished two rounds at six-under 134.

Fillmore, 22, tallied an eagle, four birdies and a bogey on Tuesday.

"The goal was to make match play," said Fillmore, a first-team all-Mountain West pick at Brigham Young. "To shoot 65 makes it that much better. I feel really good about the way I've been playing."

What makes Fillmore's run this week all the more amazing is how much time he missed in his career. He spent two years (2004-2006) on a mission in Chile and did not play during that time.

"You grow up pretty fast," acknowledged Fillmore. "I matured a lot."

Wesley Bryan, a first-round co-leader, shot a one-under 69 on the No. 4 course and took second in stroke play at four-under 136.

Dan Woltman (68) and Corey Nagy (67) share third place at minus-three.

Andrew Putnam, the other overnight co-leader, struggled to a one-over 71 on the No. 2 course Tuesday. He slipped into a tie for fifth place with Erik Flores (66) and Kyle Stanley (68) at two-under 138.

Former NCAA Player of the Year, Jamie Lovemark, Walker Cupper Rickie Fowler, Kevin Tway, the 2005 U.S. Junior champion and son of PGA Tour player Bob Tway and Sam Saunders, grandson of Arnold Palmer, all advanced to match play.

There will be a 26-man playoff for the final two spots in match play on Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. (et).

The match play portion runs from Wednesday through the 36-hole final on Sunday.
